GW - Behavior Basics: Understanding Function of Behavior and Application within MTSS
Sixth Street Facility GWAEA Oct 1, 2026

Behavior Basics is a course designed  to increase understanding of research-based behavior principles, establish a consistent approach to address behavior challenges through a functional lens, and recognize how principles of behavior are embedded in PBIS/MTSS for Social Emotional Behavioral Health (SEBH).

This course will provide an overview of functional concepts of behavior, as well as an understanding of how these concepts apply to each tier (1, 2, and 3).  This will also include how these principles can be applied to establishing effective interventions across each tier.

This Professional Development course deepens participant understanding of the foundational principles of student behavior. Through the practical application of real-life scenarios and evidence-based practices (EBP), participants will learn how to accurately determine the function of challenging behavior. The content provides staff with comprehensive proactive and responsive instructional strategies for mental health and behavioral intervention, ensuring successful implementation at all tiers of the MTSS framework.
