This is the second of three courses required for the Iowa Paraeducator Generalist Certification available through the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners.  It is strongly encouraged that participants have already taken Course 1 - Foundations, prior to taking this course. 

This course expands understanding of the importance of the learning environment and ways to

meet the needs of diverse learners. Participants will discover best practices to support improved

instructional outcomes. Learning will expand skills around varied ways to meet student

needs.

This is a 2 credit (30 clock hours) blended course, which requires the completion of online assignments, quizzes and journals in Canvas.  Participants will be expected to submit weekly assignments to complete the additional hours needed to receive a passing grade for this class.

Requirements / Prerequisites:

• It is required that participants be employed by an accredited Iowa school district as a practicing paraeducator, or work as a substitute paraeducator in an accredited Iowa school district, or have a teacher and administrator who are willing to mentor you through the certification program.  In addition to the coursework, paraeducators are required to develop a partnership team with their classroom teacher and building administrator and meet five times throughout the Paraeducator Program (spread across Courses I, II and III).
• Participants must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or equivalent GED.
• Participants must have access to a computer/internet outside of class time in order to take the courses.  Participants are expected to have basic computer skills in order to complete this course.
• Attend the Orientation Zoom session.

Participants will receive the Zoom link from instructors a few days prior to the first day of class. Instructors will contact participants at the email address tied to their AEA account.
