GW - Pet Portraits in Watercolor
June 9-12, 20204 - Amana Arts Guild

Bring pets to life with vibrant watercolor techniques!

This intensive workshop focuses on capturing the unique personality and charm of pets through watercolor painting. Students will explore how to convey the essence of different animals by making informed choices in color, contrast, and shadow while emphasizing expressive techniques over photorealism. Key techniques will include mastering brushstrokes to depict varied fur textures, preserving the “spark” in animals’ eyes, and creating balanced, complementary backgrounds that enhance the subject. Emphasis is placed on painting illusions and incorporating whimsical details to bring subjects to life.

Participants will gain hands-on experience with practical tips that simplify complex effects, making the painting process intuitive and accessible. Dedicated studio time allows for practice and refinement, culminating in a collaborative group project that applies newly learned techniques in an engaging, shared experience.
